Aker Philadelphia Shipyard informed that the first plate of steel for the third and fourth LNG-ready vessel for Kinder Morgan is set for cutting.
The new vessels will be 600-foot long and have a carrying capacity of 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or refined products, the shipyard said in a statement.
The vessels will be built with consideration for use of LNG as propulsion in the future and are planned to be delivered between November 2016 and November 2017.
Upon their completion they will be sold to subsidiaries of Kinder Morgan and placed in United States domestic service, commonly referred to as the Jones Act trade.
Kinder Morgan recently signed a deal with Philly Tankers to take assignment of contracts for the construction of four, 50,000-deadweight-ton, Tier II LNG-ready tankers.
