The Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster (IMERC) has named Resolute Marine Ltd the winner of its ‘Innovator of the Year’ award.

The award is sponsored by the global professional services firm EY and includes a cash prize and advisory services, Resolute Marine’s press release reads.

Resolute Marine Ltd is the Irish subsidiary of the US-based Resolute Marine Energy, established late in 2014.

Bill Staby , Resolute Marine Energy’s CEO, said:

“We’re pleased to be recognized for the vitally important and innovative work we are doing. IMERC has been a great addition to our global network of partners and we are committed to building our presence at ‘The Entrepreneur Ship’ at IMERC.”

According to Resolute Marine Energy (RME), the company is preparing to deploy a technology that harnesses ocean wave energy to produce fresh water and electricity in off-grid areas of the world.

RME’s initial focus is on improving access to water and electricity for coastal populations and agricultural operations in developing countries, islands and resorts.

IMERC was launched in 2010 when three institutions came together with a shared vision to promote Ireland as a world-renowned research and development location that unlocks Ireland’s maritime and energy potential.

It is an integrated institutional arrangement promoting the capabilities in the maritime and energy fields of Cork Institute of Technology, the Irish Naval Service and University College Cork.
