Fred. Olsen’s Lifesaver ready for Hawaii installation
Sound & Sea Technology has completed the assembly of Fred. Olsen’s Lifesaver wave energy converter ahead of its planned deployment at Navy’s Kaneohe Bay Wave Energy Test Site in Hawaii. The Lifesaver platform will be tested and evaluated for approximately six months at WETS deep water test berths. The WEC is currently at temporary storage waterside at Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe awaiting final environmental documentation.
Floating tidal stream turbine project to get financial boost
A collaborative effort between Instream Energy Systems and IT Power Consulting to design a floating tidal platform has been approved for financial support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP). In addition to financial support approval, the project has also received the EUREKA label.
Mojo Maritime tests Mermaid
Mojo Maritime is testing its marine planning and risk optimisation tool called Mermaid prior to the planned launching at the end of October, 2015. The user acceptance testing phase is critical to ensure that the function, capability and usability of the software has been tested in real world situations. Mermaid (Marine Economic Risk Management Aid) is an innovative software solution which simulates marine operations against historical weather and tidal data to support cost-savings through project optimization.
Ireland gets marine business innovation centre
The Entrepreneur Ship, a new centre that seeks to optimise the opportunities of the blue economy for Ireland and accelerate job creation in this sector, has officially been opened in Cork, Ireland. Companies based in the new centre are located in the IMERC Cluster in Lower Cork Harbour, adjacent to the National Maritime College of Ireland, the Irish Defence Forces Naval Base and UCC’s new Beaufort building which houses the MaREI Research Centre and the LIR National Ocean Test Facility.
