Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference 2015 officially opened its doors to thousands of visitors today at an opening ceremony held in Amsterdam RAI, in the Netherlands.
This year, the event is featuring over 650 exhibitors and it is estimated that over 14,000 visitors from the sector will frequent it. The conference & exhibition will cover various topics including HPHT developments, offshore safety, subsea processing, decommissioning, and more.
The opening ceremony on Tuesday morning was hosted by Joep Stassen who interviewed Scarlett Mummery also known as The Offshore Blondie.
Mummery is an offshore geotechnical engineer and owner of the blog The Offshore Blondie through which she aims to offer to women an insight and interest into a vocation they may not have initially thought of entering.
The two talked about Mummery’s offshore career and her blog.

In the interview, Mummery explained: “The mission behind the blog is to raise awareness of women within the industry and to offer insight into my role offshore to spark interest in the younger generation, female and male.” She also said: “I hope everyone enjoys the event, I’m really looking forward to it; I’m experiencing Amsterdam for the first time.” Afterwards, the fastest growing gathering of offshore industry professionals, Offshore Energy 2015, was opened by Coert van Zijll Langhout , Director of Navingo BV, and Mummery.
Coert van Zijll Langhout thanked Mummery for sharing her experience from the industry. He said: “We hear a lot about a big need that we need to inspire the next generation and you are here and thank you for that. What I learned from this discussion is that the big responsibility for us all is to promote our industry and to inspire the youth and then we will grow.” He emphasized there was a great need for young people in the industry who are highly skilled, well-trained and motivated. “ We need them all, men and women.” Founded in 2008, Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference has been growing year after year.
