Ireland has allocated €4.5 million for ocean energy research activities in 2016.
As announced by the Ireland’s Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources (DCENR), Alex White, €68 million has been designated for energy efficiency and renewable energy under the 2016 budget, and the funding is expected to support an estimated 2,750 jobs.
Alex White (pictured) said: “We are continuing to roll out Better Energy Programmes, which are creating jobs, tackling fuel poverty, and contributing to reduced carbon emissions and major energy cost savings. The initiatives supported by my Department are helping to provide the environment, infrastructure and public services that businesses need if they are to enjoy sustained success.”
Note: The original article titled ‘Ireland halves ocean energy research budget for 2016’ has been amended to ‘Ireland allocates €4.5 M for ocean research, €68 M for renewables’ at the request of DCENR Press Office which stated that the budget for ocean energy research activities in 2016 equals that of 2015, and amounts to €4.5 million. The funding allocation of €10 million for 2015 included operation and demonstration activities, in addition to research.
