The U.S. Maritime Administration and the Coast Guard issued its final environmental impact statement for the proposed Port Ambrose project deepwater port application.
“ The EIS, confirms that the project is needed, the location is safe, and the impacts to the environment are minimal ,” Liberty Natural Gas, the developer of the project said in a statement.
Roger Whelan, CEO of Liberty Natural Gas said that the Coast Guard, with input from many other agencies, was able to “c learly lay out the minimal environmental and safety impacts of the project in the document. ”
The project is to be located approximately 19 miles off the coast of New York and will be able to provide 400 mcf of natural gas per day on average through a 22-mile subsea pipeline.
Liquefied natural gas will be delivered via shuttle & regasification vessels to the submerged buoy system.
Liberty Natural Gas partnered with APL of Norway on the construction of the submerged buoy system as well as the equipment required to connect the vessels to the buoys when calling at Port Ambrose, while the SRV’s will be provided by Höegh LNG.
