The United States Department of Energy issued an order vacating LNG export authorization to Excelerate Energy for its proposed Lavaca Bay project in Texas.
Following an internal evaluation of the economic value of the project, Texas-based Excelerate Energy informed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in September that it will no longer pursue the proposed floating liquefied natural gas terminal at Lavaca Bay, due to global market conditions.
The company also filed a request with the Department of Energy to vacate the order granting export application to free trade agreement countries and to withdraw a pending non-FTA LNG export application.
In its filing, DOE informed that it has granted Excelerate’s request vacating the long-term, multi-contract authorization to export liquefied natural gas to free trade agreement nations. DOE also issued a notice stating that Excelerate’s pending application requesting long-term, multi-contract authorization to export LNG to non-FTA nations has been withdrawn.
