Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, sent a letter to Governor Christie urging him to veto the proposal to build the Port Ambrose offshore LNG port off the coast of Long Branch, New Jersey.
In his letter, the congressman wrote that a similar project proposed by Liberty Natural Gas in 2010 was deemed unnecessary claiming that the newly proposed project is not necessary either.
Pallone said that, following the recently finalized plan by the Department of Interior to lease 343,833 acres off of the New Jersey coast for commercial wind energy development, that is the direction in which the state of New Jersey should work.
Congressman added that domestic natural gas production has been steadily increasing and is projected to continue to increase in the coming years rendering the construction of an LNG import terminal unnecessary.
Pallone urged Governor Christie to formally disapprove the proposed LNG terminal.
