BioPower Systems’ O-Drive power take-off (PTO) module has been verified for operation by DNV GL.

The O-Drive has been certified ahead of the forthcoming deployment of bioWAVE project scheduled for November in the Port Fairy, off Australia, BioPower’s press release reads.

The standardised self-contained PTO converts irregular oscillating or reciprocating mechanical power into AC grid electricity.

It is designed for ocean energy applications, and suitable for wave or tidal projects.

BioWAVE 250 kW wave energy device comprises a 26-metre tall oscillating structure that sways back and forth beneath the ocean swell, capturing energy from the waves and converting it into electricity fed into the grid via an undersea cable.

BioPower Systems is an Australian renewable energy technology company which is developing systems for both wave and tidal power conversion.

DNV GL is a ship and offshore classification society, and technical advisor for the energy value chain including renewables and energy efficiency, as well as the global oil and gas industry.
