San Diego-based Ocean Aero is taking orders for its wind and solar-powered surface and sub-surface vessel the Submaran S10.

The Ocean Aero Submaran S10 is designed for extended autonomous ocean observation and data collection.

Equipped with a retractable wing-sail that folds down for submerging, the Submaran S10 can dive ten meters and remain under water to avoid poor weather conditions, traffic or detection.

The combination of solar and wind power enables Submaran deployment for extended periods of time in extreme conditions.

According to Ocean Aero, the Submaran will be available for delivery beginning January 2016.

The launch of this new class of Unmanned Underwater Surface Vessel (UUSV) comes just two months after Ocean Aero landed a multi-million dollar two-year contract with the Department of Defense.

CEO and President, Eric Patten , said: “We’ve been working very hard to refine the Submaran platform and are excited about getting our vessels into customer’s hands – we’ve seen tremendous interest.”
