Statoil’s Heidrun platform, in the Norwegian Sea, reached a milestone of 20 years of oil and gas production on Sunday, October 18, 2015.
Heidrun field was discovered in 1985 by Conoco, which served as operator for the exploration and development phase. The field has been producing oil and gas since October 1995 from a floating tension leg platform with a concrete hull.
According to Statoil, the operator of the field, the choke valve on well A-29 was opened at 05:37 twenty years ago, and since then the Heidrun field has produced a 944 million barrels of oil and gas.
The Heidrun field, about 175 km off the coast of central Norway at a water depth of around 350 metres, was developed with the world’s biggest floating tension leg platform in concrete. The platform is a combined production and drilling platform.
