Decom North Sea (DNS) and the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC) have announced a collaborative memorandum of understanding (MOU), thus further signifying the increasing awareness of UKCS decommissioning.
According to Decom North Sea, the MOU represents both parties’ wish to support operators, contractors, SMEs and a range of other stakeholders to develop the safe and cost-effective offshore decommissioning solutions required by operations and government.
In a press release issued Tuesday, DNS further says that at an aggregate estimated cost in excess of £50 billion ($76.5B) (2014 prices), UKCS decommissioning presents a fertile environment for the advancement of technology, which also provides the opportunity to allow the UK to develop a world-renowned decommissioning capability.
Karen Seath , Decom North Sea’s interim chief said: “Successful decommissioning relies upon the facilitation, coordination and promotion of collaboration and that’s a central focus of all DNS activity. Innovation is key to achieving this goal – and fundamental to that will be the relationship between DNS and OGIC.”
