In its latest issue of Terra et Aqua, the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) has released an article named ‘Aquapuncture: Sustainable Future of Inland Waterways’.

Aquapuncture is an instrument for the optimal use, adaptation and management of inland waterways and their waterfronts. It is an instrument for the benefit of safety, navigability, economy, employment, spatial quality and environmental values.

Waterways have always been a focal point for settlements and economic activities and were used for a great variety of functions.

All the inland waterways formed a slow waterway system, going through city centers and connecting them in a direct way.

Many industrial activities along these waterways were present and resulted in added emissions in the water.

The method of Aquapuncture is applicable to rivers, canals and lakes, both in coastal and delta areas as well as in the existing hinterland in all of the five habitable continents.

Active introduction of the method has already taken place in Europe and other parts of the world.
