Just after setting out to the sea this morning, the Björgun EHF owned trailing suction hopper dredger Perla sank in the Reykjavik harbor.

According to the managing director of the Slippur harbor area, Bjarni Thoroddsen, everyone on board was rescued and the incident was declared to be a “human error”.

Thoroddsen explains that shutters in the hull of the ship had not been closed, causing the vessel to sink, the Iceland Monitor reports.

It is not clear what the extent of the damage to Perlan is, but after divers complete their investigation of the vessel, attempts will be made to get it afloat again.
