The offshore wind industry sector is really setting the pace on the Humber and companies looking at this potential local supply chain are being encouraged to become involved.
Green Port Hull offers these companies a programme of support that has been set up by two local government councils, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council, along with the University of Hull.
Green Port held a workshop on Tuesday this week to guide companies through the first steps of marketing themselves in offshore wind and the wider renewables industry. The workshop was led by BVG Associates, the technical consultancy with expertise in the marine renewable energy sector and included input from marketing specialist Wright Marketing. The companies the attended the workshop are involved in a wide range of service and industrial interests, including Logistics, Engineering, Law, Software Systems, Training, Recruitment, Shipping, Wholesale and Precision Engineering.
There is no doubt that the UK has the ability to provide much of the input in this sector and Green Port is taking the steps to marshal these companies by providing assistance at every stage. Other organisations within the Humber involved in the offshore wind sector are Team Humber Marine Alliance and Grimsby Renewables Partnership all working with local companies towards the common goal.
These local companies have a huge potential market on their doorstep, with a concentration of offshore wind farms directly offshore from the mouth of the River Humber which is probably greater than any other region in Europe.
