Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. voiced his opposition to the proposed Port Ambrose offshore LNG port, 24 miles off the coast of Long Branch, New Jersey.
In his statement on Wednesday, at a public hearing on the final environmental impact statement, Pallone highlighted the “potential dangers” that the proposed Liberty Natural Gas Port Ambrose terminal poses to New Jersey’s ocean and coastline.
He stressed that a project, similar to the current Port Ambrose LNG project, proposed by Liberty Natural Gas in 2010, was regarded “ unnecessary then and that it is not necessary now. ”
Congressman Pallone had already urged Governor Christie to veto the proposal in October.
Domestic natural gas production has been increasing and is projected to continue to increase in the coming years, rendering the construction of an LNG import terminal unnecessary, Pallone’s statement reads.
He again urged the increased use of renewable energy sources and the rejection of Liberty Natural Gas’ Port Ambrose LNG proposal.
