Wyong Shire Council’s dredging works are on track to restore the Entrance Beach despite recent inclement weather.
More than 900 meters of pipes are connected from the dredge to the Entrance Channel to pump sand directly onto the Entrance Beach to help address erosion issues.
Council’s Waterways and Coastal Section Manager, Mr Luke Sulkowski , has praised staff who have worked through some difficult conditions to continue restoration works at the beach for the benefit of the community.
“ Our staff on the ground have been working long days to set these pipes up (each pipe weighing about 200kg) and get sand to the Entrance Beach for the benefit of the community – always keeping in mind their own safety and the safety of the public ,” Mr Sulkowski said.
According to Sulkowski, the height of the beach in front of the surf club has built up in excess of 1.5 meters of sand over the last month. “ Although there are still some exposed rockshelfs, we are hoping these will be covered up by December – depending on the weather conditions of course, ” added Sulkowski.
In early December staff will disassemble the 74 segments of pipe, dragging them out of the channel and off the beach with the aim of having the program finished by Christmas.
Council’s Mayor, Doug Eaton OAM inspected the beach on Wednesday and was impressed to see the amount of sand that has been placed on the beach to date.
Dredging of the channel is on track to be finished in time for the summer holiday season – a popular time of year at the Entrance.
