DEME has developed an innovative technique and pontoon to seal and reinforce canal and river bends.

This solution, the bentonite mattresses laying pontoon called the MATTEDOOR, is currently being used for the widening of the Juliana Canal.

The Juliana Canal forms a vital navigation route between Limmel (near Maastricht) and Maasbracht in the Netherlands. By widening and deepening the canal, larger inland navigation vessels (class Vb) will be able to travel along the canal in the future.

The video, just released by DEME, shows how the technique is being used for the specific task.
