Norwegian shipbuilder and designer, Ulstein, informed that the ‘Island Venture’ offshore construction vessel has entered the final stage of sea trials. The final works will be completed when the vessel returns to the yard by the end of the week.
According to the company, Island Venture is the largest offshore vessel to be delivered from Ulstein Verft so far. The vessel measures 160 meters in length and 30 meters in beam.
Project manager, Per Svein Brekke from Vartdalsfjorden said: “The sea trial has so far been as expected. Some challenges will always emerge on sea trials, but we are now well underway with the DP tuning. With hard work, further testing and class punch towards the delivery, we will manage to complete our mission. This is the largest ship and one of the most advanced projects so far. I believe we will manage to deliver this time as well thanks to our dedicated employees and suppliers that are currently working night and day to complete the vessel.”
The delivery of Island Venture is scheduled for Q4 2015. The Ulstein SX165-design vessel is jointly owned by Island Offshore and Edison Chouest Offshore.
“Island Venture has brought us to a new league in designing and building advanced vessels. We have learned a lot from the project,” said Ulstein Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein .
Brekke added: “ We lose sight of what is special when we keep on delivering some of the worlds most advanced vessels, but this ship is quite amazing. She is in her own league, so to say. ”
The DP3 vessel features a main offshore AHC crane 400t, secondary offshore AHC crane 140t, main moon pool, 11.2m x 12.0 m, 450t SWL top hatch and two work class ROVs, launched through dedicated moon pools.
Island Venture is powered by 19,400 ekW diesel electric engine and will be fit to accommodate 200 people.
