Cape Sharp Tidal has reportedly postponed the installation of the first out of two tidal turbines originally planned to be installed in the Bay of Fundy this fall.
According to The Chronicle Herald, Cape Sharp Tidal has changed the original plan of installing the first OpenHydro’s 2 MW tidal turbine this fall that would be followed by the installation of the second one beginning of 2016, since the project is few weeks behind schedule.
Now, the joint venture formed by OpenHydro and Emera, plans to install both 2 MW tidal turbine in spring 2016.
Sarah Dawson , Cape Sharp Tidal’s spokeswoman, told The Chronicle Herald that “the weather poses some significant challenges for us. And where that winter weather is hard to predict, we have decided to pick the next safest favourable window for deployment.”
Cape Sharp Tidal plans to install and grid-connect a 4 MW tidal array at FORCE site, off Parrsboro.
The electricity produced from the turbines is expected to power an estimated 1,000 homes in Nova Scotia, Canada.
