Tsawwassen First Nation has on Monday launched a consultation with members regarding a proposed concept for an LNG export facility on its lands in British Columbia, Canada.
The concept is at a very early stage and it will be put to a TFN member vote on December 16, 2015, the First Nation’s statement reveals.
The project, revealed by the Tsawwassen First Nation chief Bryce Williams, was developed by a joint venture that includes FortisBC LNG Development with a production capacity from three to five million tons of LNG annually.
The natural gas to supply the facility would be transported via an extension of an existing pipeline located 10 km away. The storage facility would link to a vessel loading facility at Roberts Bank via a new pipeline.
Approximately five to six LNG carriers per month would visit the facility, the First Nation said.
Should the concept receive the members’ approval, the potential start-up of operations is expected in 2022.
