40South Energy and Elements Works, Italy-based tidal and wave energy developers, have deployed and grid-connected their H24 wave energy device.
The deployment took place on November 12, 2015, and according to 40South Energy’s social media, the device was subsequently connected to the Italian grid.
The device has been inspected by 40South Energy’s and Elements Works’ divers, and all the systems are reportedly working normally.
On its social media Elements Group stated the H24 wave energy converter started moving under the action of small waves, producing peak mechanical power of 1 kW.
The 50 kW H24 machine was deployed as part of Marina di Pisa project off Tuscany, Italy. It consists of a guiding part located on the sea floor, or on a support structure, and of a moving part above it, which moves according to waves or tides.
It can behave as both tidal and wave energy generating unit, but for this particular project it will harness the energy of the waves to produce electricity.
The cost of the first phase of Marina di Pisa project is estimated to be €200.000, with the total project costs amounting to €800.000.
