Klaipedos Nafta of Lithuania and Spain’s Gasnam signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in developing standards for LNG bunkering operations.

Under the agreement, the two sides agreed to exchange experiences and cooperate in developing a standard, still “non-existent” in Europe, for regulating the activities of LNG supply for ships and trucks, Klaipedos Nafta said on Monday.

State-owned Klaipedos Nafta operates Lithuania’s first LNG terminal in Port of Klaipeda where Höegh LNG’s 170,132 cbm FSRU Independence is moored and used as regasification facility.

The company also plans to build an LNG reloading station, estimated to cost about 27 million euros, by early 2017. The station will offer LNG bunkering services to customers in the Baltic region.

The Spanish Association of Natural Gas for Mobility (Gasnam) currently counts 66 members, with activities divided into two sections, each of them accounting for half of its members: terrestrial and maritime use of natural gas as a fuel.
