High Island Offshore System filed an application with FERC seeking permission to abandon certain offshore pipeline facilities which would be repurposed to service Delfin LNG’s deepwater port project.
HIOS, a Houston-based company intends to undertake modifications to its current system in order to deliver gas to Delfin’s floating liquefied natural gas vessels for the purpose of exporting LNG upon receiving the abandonment approval, filling to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reveals.
HIOS said that currently, its repurposed facilities have been underutilized due to the declining gas supply in the Gulf of Mexico.
Delfin LNG’s project, located approximately 50 miles off the coast of Cameron Parish, Louisiana, will utilize four floating LNG vessels with an initial total export capacity of 8 million metric tonnes per year, that could be expanded to 13 million metric tonnes per year if market conditions warrant.
LNG engineer Bechtel has been recently contracted to perform the front-end engineering and design for the floating liquefied natural gas vessel (FLNGV) to go into service at Port Delfin.
Upon the final investment decision, Bechtel is expected to design, build and commission the FLNGV.
