The potential for British expertise in the subsea hubs of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia will be explored at the fifth annual Subsea Asia conference this week, the organizers have said.
The event, which takes place at the Dharmawangsa Jakarta Hotel, Indonesia on Tuesday, November 24 is organized Subsea UK, the industry body representing UK subsea suppliers.
Neil Gordon , chief executive of Subsea UK, said: “At a time when output from mature wells is declining and Asia’s need for energy is at its highest, operators are being pushed to explore more difficult fields in the search for oil and gas.”
“This has led to growth in exploration and production in progressively deeper offshore fields. Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia are collectively known as the Asian hub of subsea activity. Singapore has traditionally been the first port of call for UK companies who want to establish a presence in Asia, however this is changing.
Gordon said that in recent years, a number of British companies have set-up local offices in Malaysia and following increased inward investment, Indonesia is developing its port facilities to cope with expected growth.
According to Subsea UK, the conference will cover themes such as market outlook, Indonesian field projects, deepwater developments and technologies. In addition, pipeline integrity and techniques for inspection, repair and maintenance are also on the agenda. The conference is sponsored by Wood Group Kenny.
