Port Metro Vancouver, with DP World Vancouver, is continuing to develop preliminary design options for an expansion of Centerm, a container terminal in the inner harbor of Burrard Inlet.

The project will include a westward extension of the terminal container storage yard, an elevated parking structure, extension of the rail yard, rehabilitation of Ballantyne Pier, and reconfiguration of the container yard.

This would increase the capacity of Centerm by approximately 600,000 TEUs to approximately 1.5 million TEUs.

The Project Definition Report is expected to be completed in mid-2016, and will include field studies to confirm existing conditions in the area.

Once the preliminary design is complete in 2016, the project will be moved into the permitting phase, where it will be considered for approval. If approved, construction could commence in late 2017.
