The Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia invited public comments on the proposed WCC LNG project to be located on the eastern shore of Tuck Inlet within the city limits of Prince Rupert.
Shareholders in the WCC LNG project, ExxonMobil and Imperial Oil are proposing to build a liquefied natural gas facility with an export capacity of up to 30 million tonnes per annum of LNG to international markets, stands in the EAO’s invitation.
The proposed project is subject to review under British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Act and is also undergoing a substituted environmental assessment under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
WCC LNG must obtain an environmental assessment certificate before any work can be undertaken on the proposed project. However, prior to submission of an application for a certificate, the EAO must first approve the Application Information Requirements (AIR).
The AIR specifies the studies to be conducted and the detailed information to be provided by WCC LNG in its application and the EAO invites public comments on the draft AIR which is available for review since November 23, 2015.
To provide further information about the AIR, EAO is set to hold an Open House in Prince Rupert on December 8.
The intention of seeking public comments is to ensure that all potential effects, environmental, economic, social, heritage and health, that might result from the proposed project are identified for consideration as part of the assessment process.
After taking public comments into account, EAO will finalize the AIR and issue them to WCC LNG.
