The Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo) plans to construct tidal energy test site in the Cape Cod Canal, Massachusetts.
The news comes following the receipt of the government’s Seaport Economic Council Grant in the amount of $209,952.
In addition to the grant funding, another $50,000 from other investments will be used to establish tidal energy testing site, that will, MRECo states, draw national and international private investment, as it advances the development of a reliable, zero-carbon energy source, and creates local and regional employment opportunities for high-tech and middle-skills workers.
MRECo is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to foster the sustainable growth of marine renewable energy, including wave, tidal, and offshore wind sectors of New England through education, collaboration, and demonstration.
Seaport Economic Council grants are awarded on a competitive basis, and offer flexible funding to empower communities to bring forward the best ideas and projects for cultivating and stimulating the maritime economic sector and growing jobs.
