Marathon Oil is set to receive its new compression platform, the Alba B3, which will be deployed at the Alba offshore field in Equatorial Guinea.

The platform has sailed away from the Netherlands towards its final destination. The platform’s topsides and jacket were both constructed by Heerema Fabrication Group.

Once at the location, the 5,800-tonne topside, will be mated with the 91-meter tall jacket weighing 2.600 tonnes. The Alba 3 platform will compress gas from the existing Alba field.

Apart from having built the platform, Heerema will be responsible for the installation at the Alba field, located some 32 kilometers offshore Malabo. Heerema will use the Thialf crane vessel for final offshore installation. Te Alba B3 platform will be linked to the existing Alba B2 platform with a 33-meter-long bridge.

Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven , CEO of Heerema Fabrication Group: “We are proud that after being involved in the FEED study to also have executed the EPCI scope for Alba B3. Working on such a complex scope, executed at many different locations worldwide requires intensive communication and project management skills.”
