The Cutter Suction Dredger Simulator Course, organized by the Center for Dredging Studies, will take place from January 18-20, 2016, at the Haynes Coastal Engineering Laboratory, Texas A&M University.

The short course will demonstrate the fundamentals of hydraulic dredging using a cutter suction dredge.

Basic concepts of cavitation, deposition of sediment in the pipeline, pipeline length limitations, pump power limitations, and swing winch limitations will be simulated.

Different sediment conditions and channel currents will also be simulated. The instructors for the course are Peter DeJong and Robert Randall.

Texas Dredging Center

The Center for Dredging Studies was established in 1968 as a result of conferences held between educators, representatives of the dredging industry, manufacturers, and officials at Texas A&M University.

The Center is part of the Ocean Engineering Program in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering and the Texas Engineering Experiment Station and is supported by gifts and research grants from the dredging industry and the government.

In addition to research and industrial testing, the Center’s activities include teaching university courses and providing annual seminars and short courses concerning advances in dredging engineering technology.
