Kuwait’s LNG imports could reach three million tons in 2015, according to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s manager for naphtha, mogas and LPG sales Khaled Al-Sabah.
This would represent an increase of 17 percent compared to the previous year when the country imported around 2.5 million tons of LNG through the 170,000 cbm FSRU Golar Igloo that serves on a five-year charter.
Al-Sabah added that the option to extend the charter deal which ends in 2019 was being explored, Reuters reports.
The FSRU is being chartered for a nine-month period, with a three-month window when the vessel can explore spot carrier and short term options.
However, the nine-month period has already been extended to the end of December with a possibility to charter the vessel for a full year in 2016, due to an increase in demand.
