Wärtsilä, the Finnish engine manufacturer, will supply a 40 MW LNG-fired power generation plant to Kerala State Electricity Board in Southern India.
The plant will be located near the city of Kochi and is planned to provide peaking power to the state of Kerala that has a peak power deficit of approximately 330 MW, Wärtsilä said in a statement on Monday.
The plant will comprise four Wärtsilä 34SG engines running on natural gas. The gas will be transported by a pipeline from the new LNG terminal in Kochi. The engines will replace two aged generation units that run on low sulphur heavy stock oil (LSHS).
According to Wärtsilä, this is the first dedicated peaking power station ordered by a state utility in India, and also KSEBL’s first gas-fired power plant.
