The Netherlands-based contractor SPT Offshore has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Muhibbah Engineering for the detailed design of the suction pile foundation, design supervision of the jacket and full transportation and installation (T&I) of the Ophir wellhead platform.
Muhibbah is the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning (EPCIC) contractor for the wellhead platform for the Ophir oil field located in Block PM 305, offshore Malaysia.
The platform is based on SPT Offshore’s solution consisting of a tri-legged jacket with an integrated suction pile foundation.
Mark Riemers , MD of SPT Offshore, stated that he is very pleased with this contract: “This award proves that suction pile foundations for wellhead platforms are a very cost efficient solution and provides the option for re-use at other fields. Despite the downturn in the offshore oil and gas sector, SPT Offshore was able to secure this project. The jacket with integrated suction pile foundation will be installed in one piece offshore, making a safe and swift offshore execution possible.”
The Ophir field is managed by Ophir Production, a joint venture company between Octanex Pte Ltd, a wholly owned-subsidiary of Octanex NL, which is a public listed company in Australia, Scomi D&P Sdn Bhd and Vestigo Petroleum Sdn Bhd — a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.
Octanex holds a 50% equity interest in Ophir Production, while Scomi holds 30% and Vestigo the remaining 20%.
According to Octanex, the Australian oil and gas company, the schedule for the EPCIC of the Ophir platform will see the platform installed in the field in the third quarter of 2016.
The Ophir oil field is being developed via three production wells, a wellhead platform (WHP) and leased Floating Production Storage and Offload (FPSO) vessel.
