Seven days since the blowout offshore Azerbaijan, the Gunashli 10 platform is still burning.
The Azerbaijan Ministry of Emergency Situations on Thursday released a video showing several offshore vessels spraying the burning unit with water in the firefighting attempt.
According to Azeri media, the search is still ongoing for 23 offshore workers that went missing following the fire blowout at the Socar-operated platform on Friday, December 4. Seven bodies have been recovered so far. Thirty-three workers were rescued last week. The incident has been described as the largest disaster in Socar’s history.
To remind, the blowout occurred after a gas pipeline was damaged in a severe storm. Trend.az on Friday reported that firefighters have managed to land on the platform, located at the Gunashli field, 120 kilometers east of Baku, Azerbaijan.
