Germany’s offshore wind farms have generated 1.3% of the overall energy produced country-wide in 2015, a 550% increase compared to a 0.2% contribution by offshore wind turbines in 2014, according to the data released by the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW).
Overall, energy generated from renewable sources has been the biggest contributor to Germany’s energy mix with a 30% share in 2015, surpassing lignite-powered (24%) and coal-powered generation (18.2%).
BDEW attributed the rise in the share of power generated via renewables to increased capacity and favourable weather conditions.
Germany has produced 647.1 TWh of electricity this year, a 3.1% increase compared to 627.8 TWh of power generated in 2014.
Energy generated from renewable resources has reached 194.1 TWh in 2015, 19.5% more compared to 162.5 TWh generated a year earlier.
