UK Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has released energy statistics report for the third quarter of 2015.
In 2015 Q3, total electricity generated fell by 0.5%, from 76.4 TW/h a year earlier to 75.9 TW/h.
The share of renewables (hydro, wind and other renewables) in electricity generation increased from 17.6% in 2014 Q3 to 23.5% in 2015 Q3, which was, according to the statistics report, primarily due to an increase in wind and solar capacity.
Renewable electricity capacity was 29.7 GW at the end of the third quarter of 2015, a rise of 26% (6.1 GW) on a year earlier. More than half (3.9 GW) of this increase was due to, mainly large-scale, solar photovoltaics, while onshore and offshore wind contributed 1.2 GW, the report states.
Low carbon electricity’s share of generation increased from 38.1% to 45.3%, due to increased generation from renewables and increased nuclear availability.
The report covers the 3 month period from August to October 2015, with comparison to the same period a year earlier.
