The Dutch Senate is currently in session, discussing the Stroom draft bill, under which TenneT would be in charge of construction of the offshore grid for the connection of offshore wind farms.
The bill also regulates the split of electricity companies, as the Dutch government wants to unbundle energy producers from power distributors.
The country’s minister of economic affairs, Henk Kamp, said that if the senators dismiss the Stroom bill today, the installation of new major offshore wind farms in the Dutch sector of the North Sea could be delayed, according to Dutch news site Trouw.
At the beginning of this month , the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced it will wait for Senate’s discussion on the draft bill before launching the tender procedure for Borssele I & II sites, thus delaying it until mid-January 2016.
The Senate’s decision is expected to be made public tomorrow morning, at the latest.
