Jordan’s first LNG import terminal at Aqaba, that recently stopped supplying gas to the country’s grid due to bad weather conditions, received a cargo of the fuel on Thursday.
According to shipping data, the LNG cargo was reloaded at Spain’s Huelva regasification plant and brought onboard the Esshu Maru, a 155,300 cbm LNG carrier.
Jordan started importing LNG imports earlier this year via the FSRU Golar Eskimo, which is being used as the country’s first LNG facility in the port of Aqaba
National Electric Power Company of Jordan declared force majeure on the terminal at the beginning of December as strong winds required Golar Eskimo to move away from the jetty. This caused a disruption in gas supplies in Jordan and Egypt.
NEPCO informed last week that following the disruptions, Aqaba LNG terminal is operating at full capacity.
Capable of storing 160,000 cubic metres of LNG and delivering up to 500 mmscfd with a peaking capacity of 750 mmscfd, the FSRU delivers the fuel to power plants throughout the country and also to the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding (EGAS) via a pipeline.
