Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit said it has delivered the LNG-powered cement tanker Greenland.

After a program of trials and tests, Greenland on Wednesday departed Delfzijl on its first commercial voyage to Rostock where the LNG powered vessel will receive its first cement load, Ferus Smit said in a statement.

M.V. Greenland is a dedicated cement carrier built for the joint venture JT cement, in which shipping company Erik Thun cooperates with KG Jebsen Cement of Norway.

According to Ferus Smit, the vessel is the first ever dry cargo vessel with an LNG fuelled propulsion system and LNG tanks integrated inside the hull.

Ferus Smit is currently also building the sister ship of the 110 meter-long Greenland at its Westerbroek Yard in the Netherlands.
