Opus Offshore-owned drillship, the Opus Tiger-1, has completed its second sea trial in China.

The drillship will be managed by a joint venture company between Songa Offshore and Opus Offshore, named Songa Opus Offshore Drilling Pte Ltd.

The Opus Tiger-1 drillship was built by Shanghai Shipyard and the drilling package was provided by a drilling equipment manufacturer, Honghua Group (HH). The drillship was christened in November 2014.

According to HH, on December 29, 2015, the Opus Tiger-1 drillship completed the 12-day second sea trial. The trial was focused on the mooring system and drilling system integrated acceptance test.

The drilling package designed and manufactured by HH passed the test with a satisfactory result, the company said. The “Tiger” drilling package developed by HH is the first deep water floating drilling package designed and manufactured in China, HH added.

The Tiger Drillships are mono-hull drilling units, capable of operating in water depths up to 5,000 feet using an 18-3/4″ x 15,000 psi BOP with 21″ OD riser.

The drilling equipment manufacturer also said this was the first time that a large number of new technologies independently developed by HH had been applied to offshore floating drilling platform, in China. The core equipment of the entire drilling package developed by HH has obtained Product Design Acceptance of ABS-CDS.
