ConocoPhillips Alaska has donated $500,000 for the completion of the energy research facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF).

The funding will be used for the completion of the fourth floor of the new engineering building at UAF which will house the UAF Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) which develops and tests alternative energy systems in Alaska.

The completion of the fourth floor of the building is one of UAF’s centennial initiatives. This initiative aims to raise $6.5 million to complete the space, which will accommodate the center’s multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to research, UAF’s press release reads.

Mike Powers , UAF interim Chancellor, said: “This gift from ConocoPhillips Alaska will help ensure that the Alaska Center for Energy and Power has the modern facilities it needs to continue its work solving Alaska’s energy challenges and preparing the next generation of engineers for our state.”

The center is part of the UAF College of Engineering and Mines.

ConocoPhillips is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company.
