Lundin Malaysia, a subsidiary of Swedish oil company Lundin Petroleum, has completed the drilling of the Imbok-1 well, offshore Malaysia.

The company said that the well, which was targeting hydrocarbons in Miocene aged sands, encountered minor oil shows and was plugged and abandoned. The well, located in the SB307/308 area, was drilled with the West Prospero jack-up rig.

The rig has already moved to the next location within the same block, where it has started drilling on another well – the Bambazon prospect, offshore East Malaysia.

The Bambazon prospect is in shallow water and lies to the north of a major producing field in offshore East Malaysia. Similarly to the Imbok well, the Bambazon will target hydrocarbons in Miocene aged sands.

Bambazon will be drilled to a total depth of approximately 1,250 metres below mean sea level. The drilling of the well is expected to take approximately 25 days.

Lundin Malaysia holds 85 percent working interest in SB307/SB308. Partner is PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd with a 15 percent working interest.
