Nobu Su, chairman of Today Makes Tomorow (TMT) said on Tuesday several patents enabling possible construction of a hybrid ice class LNG ship have been registered in 2015.

The two registered patents are called Hybrid Ship and the Mahoubin Bottle Shape LNG tank, Nobu Su said in a statement.

The Hybrid Ship patent consists of a conventionally driven main propeller and an electrically driven duct propeller together while the Mahoubin Bottle Shape LNG tank, which received a patent from the Japanese Patent Office, open the possibility of developing the first hybrid ice class LNG vessel.

The concept has been revealed to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and other IACS members in order to address the upcoming Polar-class regulation and cut on CO2 emissions, especially while using the Arctic route.
