The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has acquired a containerized hyperbaric chamber in order to increase the safety of the underwater activities of the research facility.

The hyperbaric chamber is part of the equipment strategy included in the PLOCAN roadmap in order to answer to the operational needs of the infrastructure, which will carry out several underwater activities, PLOCAN’s press release reads.

The acquired hyperbaric chamber, model IB-180, can also be moved to other locations as it is containerized.

This initiative is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Operational Programme of the Canary Islands.

To remind, PLOCAN has recently been allocated €1.2 million from the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI).

PLOCAN is a research facility co-funded by the Economy and Competitiveness Ministry of the Spanish government and the Canary Islands government, with the aim of supporting research and development in the fields of ocean science and technology.
