Lundin Petroleum has completed the drilling and evaluation of exploration well 6407/10-4 on the Lorry prospect, in the Norwegian Sea. The well was dry.

The well is located in PL700B, on the northern part of the Frøya High in the southern Norwegian Sea.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Rogn formation). The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in carbonate rocks from the Permian.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the well did not encounter reservoir rocks in the primary or secondary exploration targets. However, it did encounter about 830 metres of sandstones of unknown age, with poor to moderate reservoir quality. The reservoir rocks contain only traces of petroleum and the well is classified as dry.

Well 6407/10-4 was drilled to a vertical depth of 3224 metres below the sea surface and was terminated in basement rock. It was drilled with the semi-submersible drilling rig Island Innovator and has been permanently plugged and abandoned. The rig will now drill wildcat well 16/4-10 in production licence 544 in the central part of the North Sea, where Lundin Norge AS is the operator.

This is the first exploration well in production licence 700 B which was awarded in APA 2014.

Lundin Norway is the operator of PL700B with a 40 percent working interest. The partners are Bayerngas Norge AS with 20 percent, GDF Suez E&P Norge AS with 20 percent and VNG Norge AS with 20 percent.

On Tuesday, Lundin was awarded four exploration licence interests in the 2015 Norwegian Licensing Round (Awards in Predefined Areas, APA). The awarded licences include two in the North Sea and two in the Norwegian Sea. Two of these licences will be operated by Lundin Norway.
