Technip to Build Foundations for Finland Offshore Wind Project

Technip Offshore Finland will manufacture subsea foundations for the world’s first offshore wind farm suitable for icy conditions, which will be built by Finish wind farm production company Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy. Technip Offshore Finland will manufacture subsea foundations for the world’s first offshore wind farm suitable for icy conditions, which will be built by Finish wind farm production company Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy.

The construction of the offshore wind farm is scheduled to kick off this spring. The OWF will feature ten 4 MW offshore turbines, supplied by Siemens. The substation and main transformers are supplied by ABB.

Technip will supply the gravity-based steel foundations caisson foundations, filled with rock material.

According to Arto Huhmarkangas , project director for the offshore wind farm, the construction will start with dredging operations. The underground cable and substation will be installed between the upcoming and following summers, and the foundations and subsea cable in spring and summer 2017. The turbines should be erected in summer 2017, with first power scheduled for autumn same year.
