Peter Lloyd, a Global Head of the Centre of Competence for EHS Offshore at Siemens, received the inaugural Jerry Carnell Safety Award in Renewable UK’s Health and Safety Awards 2016.

This new award was created in recognition of Jerry Carnell who passed away in 2015. Jerry was a long standing and active member of the renewables industry and was instrumental in championing a variety of health and safety projects. He was also a highly respected professional who made a substantial contribution to raising standards across the sector, RenewableUK said in a statement.

“I am delighted that Peter has been singled out for this richly-deserved, special recognition award. Peter’s appointment was one of a number of measures implemented to embed a Zero Harm culture within the business. It is a measure of Peter’s influence and success that this has not only been accomplished within the company, but that his leadership has benefited workers throughout the offshore wind industry,” Siemens Chief Executive Juergen Maier said.

As a former senior officer in helicopter search and rescue operations, Peter has worked on bringing industry bodies and stakeholders together to jointly raise standards and adopt best practice approaches.

“Peter has brought a degree of professionalism to the industry that has earned credibility with stakeholders such as the HSE, ICOA, MCA and others. Without Peter’s efforts we would have had much greater intervention from regulators and more importantly working safely offshore would simply not be as well embedded in the industry culture as it is today,” the award nomination citation states.
