A diver died on Friday following an incident that happened on Wednesday, January 27, at the Westcon Olen rig yard in Norway.

According to Westcon, which did not provide too many details on the accident, the incident happened on Wednesday morning at the yard, and was related to diving work.

An earlier release from Westcon reveals the work was stopped at “the rig” after the incident, but did not name the rig itself.

Data from Marine Traffic currently show three rigs moored at the Wescon yard: Henry Goodrich, Safe Scandinavia and Borgland Dolphin.

The diver, that was employed by AD Offshore, a supplier of Westcon Yards, was in critical condition when he arrived at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen. The 22-year-old from Karmoy died of injuries on Friday. An investigation is underway to try to determine the cause of the incident.

“This is a moment of great sadness. It is a deeply tragic accident and our thoughts go out to his family and others close to him,” said Øystein Matre , CEO of Westcon Yards in Olen. “Our focus is now to assist the bereaved and his working colleagues with whatever need they may have,” Matre added.
