EnBW has once again chosen EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) to provide a Maritime Coordination team for the construction phase of the 350 MW Wikinger offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

Last week, EnBW and Iberdrola, the developer of the Wikinger OWF, signed a contract under which EnBW will handle the coordination of shipping traffic, health and safety, and environmental protection at the construction site.

The new contract follows EMO’s completion of the Marine Coordination job for the construction phase of the offshore wind farm Baltic 2.

”During the past 3 years EMO has been very flexible in adjusting their on-site shift setup to our actual requirements. We appreciate that the company has over 30 coordinators of an almost equivalent competence level. They handled sickness, leave and fluctuation without any influence on our project workflows,“ said Thorsten Setzer, Manager Maritime Logistics at EnBW Hamburg.

The EUR 1.4 billion Wikinger offshore wind farm will comprise 70 AD5-135 Adwen wind turbines, and will supply electricity to around 350,000 German households once it is commissioned in 2017.

As with the Baltic 2 OWF, the installation and logistical base will be located in Sassnitz-Mukran. That means EMO’s B2 Team will go right back to Mukran for another two years, EMO said in a statement.
