Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC) has been awarded a contract to supply site technicians to DONG Energy for its 582 MW Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farm.
SMC and DONG Energy have been collaborating on UK offshore construction projects since 2010, but this is the first time for the UK-based offshore solutions provider to supply DONG with site technicians.
The site technicians began work in early January and are carrying out general maintenance and walk downs to the 97 transition pieces on site.
SMC’s Managing Director Ian Coates said: “This is an area we have been looking at closely, so we are pleased to break into supplying technicians. We are speaking to service providers and developers to expand further into this area in the future. “
The Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farm is scheduled to go into operation in 2016. It is located 33 kilometres from the German islands of Juist and Norderney.
